The purpose of Dakota County Star
Quilters shall be to contribute to the growth of knowledge about
quilting techniques, patterns, history and quilt-making by providing
educational meetings, fun and fellowship, by sponsoring and
supporting quilting activities, by encouraging quilt-making, and by
promoting the appreciation and knowledge of quilts.
We are located in
Dakota County, Minnesota, near Minneapolis and St. Paul.
Visitors are always welcome.
Thinking of joining? Come to a meeting and get to
know us.
DCSQ meets the 2nd Tuesday
of every month, 7-9 pm, at the Eagan Community Center,
Eagan, Minnesota. (Click
here for directions.)
In February, our meeting is
at our annual quilt show at the Dakota County Historical
Society in South St Paul.
The July meeting is a potluck picnic at a
park in Eagan.

Show starts Wednesday, February 8, 2011
through Friday, March 2, 2012 .
Lecture by Glad Creations at 1 pm and 7 pm,
Tuesday February 14, 2011

Tuesday, February 14th only, for lecture at 1 pm and 7 pm.
Wednesday and Friday 9-5 pm
Thursday - 9-8 pm Saturday - 10-3 pm
Suggested donation to the museum is $3.00

Directions to museum:
I 494 to Concord Street. North on
Concord Street to Grand Avenue (stoplight by Burger
King). Left on Grand Avenue, up hill and to
the left on 3rd Avenue. The Dakota County
Historical Society Museum is on the left, across the
street from South St. Paul City Hall.

Register your quilts January 18 by
paper form or email by January 27, 2012.

Use the paper registration (click
here to print out the 2012 form) at the January meeting,
or mail it to Jeannette Root, at the address on the form.

Or email the information to
Jeannette Root, including all the information that is
on the form. Note that you will not be able type
the information in the form and email the form, so just
email the information.

Drop off your quilts at the Dakota
County Historical Society at 130 3rd Ave North, South St.
Paul. Drop off days will be February 2nd and
February 3rd, 2012.

Quilt Hanging day is Saturday, February
4th. Lunch is provided. Come dressed to work.
There are many jobs that do not require being on a ladder,
so come and lend your hand. Friday February 3rd will
be rack se-up starting at 9 am. Help will be needed
this day as well. After the show is hung, the store
will be open for shopping.

Charity sewing sessions: Each
of the Saturdays in February will provide us with a special
opportunity to get together at the Dakota County Historical
Society and sew for charities and to get to know one another
better. February 11 - Pillowcases; February 18, baby
quilts for Bundles of Love, February 25, scrappy strip
pieced blocks for Hovander House.

Small Quilt Auction items will be
accepted until the end of January. Please contact
Barbara Boyd. (See member directory for their
phone numbers.)

Store donations: Cindy Hilleary and
Mary Burnes are in charge of the store at the show, and
are accepting donations at each meeting through January.
Donations can also be dropped off at the Dakota County
Historical Society, or at the November, December or January DCSQ
meetings.

Show take-down: The quilt show ends
Thursday March 1st at 8 pm. The show take-down will be
Saturday March 3rd from 9am, until about noon.

Quilt pick-up will be on Saturday
March 3rd from noon to 3 pm. No quilts will be
released before noon. You can pick up a quilt for
someone else if you have the claim ticket given at
registration. If you cannot pick up your quilt on
March 6th, you can pick up your quilt during the Dakota
County Historical Society's regular hours the following
week.

Hanging Requirements:
-
LARGE quilts (greater than 45 inches
wide) will need a sleeve on the back top edge. Cut
a strip of fabric the width of the quilt top and 10
inches wide. Fold in half lengthwise and sew a 1/4
inch seam. Hand or machine baste to the top edge
of the quilt back. Tack down the folded edge so
the sleeve does not show.

Table runners will be hung lengthwise
on the small quilt racks, so put the sleeve across the
shortest side. Cut strip 5 inches wide and sew as
above. Tack down the folded edge so the sleeve
does not show.

All quilts need to be labeled with at
least your name for identification purposes.
