Mission:

The purpose of Dakota County Star Quilters shall be to contribute to the growth of knowledge about quilting techniques, patterns, history and quilt-making by providing educational meetings, fun and fellowship, by sponsoring and supporting quilting activities, by encouraging quilt-making, and by promoting the appreciation and knowledge of quilts.

 

We are located in Dakota County, Minnesota, near Minneapolis and St. Paul.

Meetings:

Visitors are always welcome. Thinking of joining?  Come to a meeting and get to know us.

DCSQ meets the 2nd Tuesday of every month, 7-9 pm, at the Eagan Community Center, Eagan, Minnesota.  (Click here for directions.

In February, our meeting is at our annual quilt show at the Dakota County Historical Society in South St Paul.

 The July meeting is a potluck picnic at a park in Eagan.

"I made this quilt for my Mom's 70th birthday.  She had given me many handkerchiefs that had belonged to her parents, many with monograms.  I pieced this together to honor the memory of my grandparents and to give my Mom a special memory quilt to use and enjoy."

"My husband and I fell in love with this quilt when we saw it displayed at Blue Bamboo about a year ago.  Since it is a rather skimpy queen I have made some adjustments; fortunately the kit contained a generous amount of extra fabric.  It was a joy to make."

"Block Exchange Sampler"

"Guild members in small groups each made two blocks for all group members.  Each month the fabric was passed on to the next member, and the finished blocks were returned to the quilt owner.  I added eight blocks and borders and completed this larger quilt for my granddaughter, who loves pink and purple."

"1982 Log Cabin"

"In 1982 I started a queen-size quilt with 100 blocks.  I sewed the blocks into four units of 25 blocks, intending to assemble them after hand quilting.  Las summer I decided to make it into 3 quilts, taking blocks from one of the units to add blocks to the other three.  It's great to finally get this out of my UFO, and sleep under it."

"I started this quilt over 12 years ago.  For some reason, I wanted to hand-piece and hand-quilt this project.  There were many starts and stops along the way, but I got it finished last year.  It has found its home in our tear-drop trailer.  We hope to travel the country snuggled under a little bit of home."

"I used the guidelines in Judy Sisnero's book "Nine-Patch Pizzazz" to design this quilt.  While it might remind most people of fishing, we're vegetarians, so this quilt is named "Fish Sanctuary".

"2007 quilt show mystery quilt class taught by Barb Boyd and Jeannette Root.  Made for my sister Pam, whose grandchildren call her Nana.  The light purple fabric has names that grandmothers are commonly called, including Nana.  After several years, I finallly finished piecing this quilt for Christmas."

"I was in California scouting out quilt and yarn shops when I saw this panel in Monterey.  The design for the quilt is an adaptation of a Sue Stein pattern.  Page did a terrific job quilting.  Notice the water swirling around the fish.  I really like the way this quilt turned out."

"I made this quilt for my husband using a variation of a patterh that Gwen Lundgren created for Quilts of Valor.  I had just enough of the gold and green tree fabric in my stash to make the border and complete the woodsy look.  I used silk batting to keep it lightweight."

"I bought fabric at the quilt show in Rochester.  I put eight squares together but didn't like it, so I took it apart and added red.  Then there was too much red, so I added a design in the red and added an additional border in the same fabric line I found at a different quilt shop."

"the one thing I miss about Texas is the spring wildflower season.  The center appliquéd bluebonnet in this quilt is surrounded by primroses, Tahoka daisies and Indian Blanket flowers.  The bluebonnet and Indian Paintbrush print surrounding the appliquéd flowers is from a Kerrville, Texas artist."
